Geological Modeling and Resource Estimation
To determine the viability of a mineral resource the topography, mineral unit(s) (top and base of mineral, overburden and interburden units) and geological structure (faulting etc.) must be modelled. An initial geological model is generated using site investigation data. This is then checked against and influenced by additional data such as published geological mapping information, published borehole information from around the site and historical mine working plans.

With a comprehensive 3D model of the local geology a resource estimation can be undertaken to determine the volume and tonnage of both saleable mineral and waste within defined areas.

ROCK OPTIONS is very experienced in producing geological models and resource estimates. Often, a detailed understanding of the site geology is developed by producing cross sections, contouring and isopachyte plans by hand before developing the final 3D model using the LSS software. Resource estimations are also undertaken using LSS.
